Proliant DL360 Adding 2nd CPU - Problems

My 360 was running a 1Ghz CPU. I replaced both with 1.13 Ghz CPS, and now the CD-Drive keeps running and I do not reciev any video. Any Ideas?

Re: Proliant DL360 Adding 2nd CPU - Problems

Make sure you added both processers of the same speed and did not accidentally put the old processor back in. Mixed processor speeds could cause this...

Check to make sure the processors are seated correctly and that all other connections are good. Check the DIMM's as you might have bumped one loose.
Check SW1 ont he system board and make sure Switch 1 is "off".
Enjoy!

Re: Proliant DL360 Adding 2nd CPU - Problems

Unfortunatly, all of that checks out OK. It is interesting to note that the only LEDs that come on is the power LED...even the HardDrive's LEDs only flicker once when the power is turned on.

Make sure the PCI Riser Board Assmbly is seated well. It appears to be the only other powered board to keep the system down...

Have you tried posting the server with only one processor installed?

This blerb is from the Troubleshooting Guide:
ftp://ftp.compaq.com/pub/supportinformation/techpubs/installation_guides/169545-002.pdf

Normal Power-Up Sequence
The following sequence of events occurs during normal operation when a
system that meets the minimum hardware requirements is powered up.
1. The front panel Power On/Standby LED turns from amber (standby) to
green (on).
2. The fans start up.
3. The server initializes in the following sequence:
a. System initialization
b. PCI auto configuration
c. Video initialization
d. Memory test
e. Memory initialization
f. Processor initialization
g. Power supply checking
h. System event checking
i. Diskette drive
j. CD-ROM
k. SCSI devices
l. Additional IDE devices
4. The operating system boots.
Enjoy!

Yes, each of these happens...however I can't tell beyond step three without a video connection.

Re: Proliant DL360 Adding 2nd CPU - Problems

Outside of taking the number two processor off the board... you could add a PCI video card in the system and changing SW1 switch 1 to "on"?
Let me know?
Enjoy!

Re: Proliant DL360 Adding 2nd CPU - Problems

Using a PCI video card didn't change anything.
I then removed the second CPU, nothing. Although, after removing the second CPU I noticed two new illumiated LEDs. One is located next to CPU#1 labled CR4C117 (between the CPU and the fan). The other LED is located on the opposing side, on the other side of CPU#2 labled CR32.

Re: Proliant DL360 Adding 2nd CPU - Problems

I stuck the old 1GHz CPU back in and it booted up. For some reason the DL360 isn't rrecognizing the 1.13GHz CPUs

Re: Proliant DL360 Adding 2nd CPU - Problems

I was also noticing that these new CPUs have 512KB Cache while the original had 256...does this matter? I updated the Bios...still nothing.

What Spare Part Number for the processors did you order?

Re: Proliant DL360 Adding 2nd CPU - Problems

SP# 228524-001 is for the DL380G2 & ML370G2

SP# 238905-001 is for the DL360

SP# 239324-001 is for the ML330G2, ML350G2 & ML370G2

I had no idea Compaq sold so many different sets of the same processor...
Enjoy!

Re: Proliant DL360 Adding 2nd CPU - Problems

Found my Problem...I'm missing a part, Upgrade Kit. What is the upgrade Kit?:

Dear HP Customer,

Thank you for contacting HP eServices.

This is with reference to your e-mail regarding the processor upgrade.

The serial number provided (6J16FXK170J6) indicates that your server is a ProLiant DL360 G1 server.

To resolve the issue, we suggest the following:

Please ensure that you have the following parts, before you upgrade the processor on ProLiant DL360 G1 server:

P1133/133Mhz Pentium III 512KB Processor Option Kit --------- 232545-B21
Compaq ProLiant DL360 P1133/P1266 Upgrade Kit ------------- 236122-B21

Note: When upgrading 550 MHz, 800 MHz, 866 MHz, 933 MHz, 1.0 GHz Models to a 1.133 or 1.266 GHz Model, the Compaq ProLiant DL360 P1133/P1266 Upgrade Kit (236122-B21) is required.

Re: Proliant DL360 Adding 2nd CPU - Problems

Supposedly the current System board only supports up to 1Ghz CPUs.

Re: Proliant DL360 Adding 2nd CPU - Problems

Most PIII beyond 1GHz and certainly those with 512KB 2nd level cache are Tualatin processors made with 0.13?? process size (vs. 0.18?? before) and lots of other changes. I wouldn't expect those to work in a 360 not made to support them.

Re: Proliant DL360 Adding 2nd CPU - Problems

Hmm... I see the part, but, from the picture, I can't tell what it is or does. Let us know?
Enjoy!
