Proliant DL360 G4p SCSI with a 72GB SCSI320 disk installed but i├В┬┤m planning to use it as Storage Server and i want to put some more discs on it, but SCSI disks are too expensive.

No , scsi models dont have sata controler. There is no "conversion kit". if You need some space connected to dl360 choose something from:

Re: Proliant DL360 G4p SCSI with SATA???

Do you think i can use a Promise FastTrak TX4300 Serial ATA RAID Controller on it?

No , i see no chance to connect raid controler with scsi backplane. You have scsi model it means scsi backplane ,scsi controler. scsi and sata are not compatible .

Re: Proliant DL360 G4p SCSI with SATA???

Hello Jean,

Yes you can use a Sata controller on that server. I have use several Sata controllers on the DL series that use a SCSI backplane and they have all worked very well.

Futher more you may want to check out the Serial HP MSA20, combined with a SCSI controller in your DL360. Its a little expensive to setup to start, but then you can use your SATA drives on it, and have the ability to use on other servers as well for redundancy.

Re: Proliant DL360 G4p SCSI with SATA???

The promise raid card that you have selected will not allow you to use external enclosures you have to use some like this below.

you will not be able to use the drives internal.

Re: Proliant DL360 G4p SCSI with SATA???

It is very difficult to find out this kind of external cases for eSata here.

I have already find the controller, can you confirm if this controller can be installed on my server?

I├В┬┤ll use it with 2 x Seagate 750GB 7200.11 Sata II.

Thank you.

Re: Proliant DL360 G4p SCSI with SATA???

What about replacing the SCSI backplane with a SATA backplane and installing a SATA RAID card? That seems like it would work. Anybody have any thoughts on that?

Re: Proliant DL360 G4p SCSI with SATA???

Nevermind, it doesn't look physically possible given the way that the SCSI backplane integrates with the system board.

Re: Proliant DL360 G4p SCSI with SATA???

Sorry to drag this up again, but I've just seen that spare is still available (from brokerage sources) for the SATA backplane for this model. PN: 361389-001

Having checked several of our SCSI DL360 G4p's I can see that the SATA soldering is labelled on the motherboard, but the actualy SATA ports themselves aren't present. It appears that they have never been soldered into place.

Would somebody be able to confirm if this was the case with every SCSI model? Therefore they were simply designed to not be upgradeable? Otherwise it seems that it would be very easy to swap the backplane and turn these machines into SATA servers.

Many Thanks in anticipation.
