Proliant DL360 Gen9 with GEN 10 harddisks

Hello,

We have old Proliant DL360 Gen9.   One of the old hard disks going down. We need replacement. Our dealer have only GEN 10 version the same disk. Can we use newer Gen 10 disk in older Gen9 server?

Re: Proliant DL360 Gen9 with GEN 10 harddisks

Here's what I have got from Chat GTP:

Using a newer generation disk in an older server model can be risky and is generally not recommended. Server generations are designed with specific hardware compatibility, and while there might be some compatibility between closely related generations, it's not guaranteed.

In the case of HP ProLiant servers, the Gen9 and Gen10 models may have different hardware specifications and requirements. The disk drives may have different interfaces, form factors, or other technical specifications that could make them incompatible.

To ensure compatibility and avoid potential issues such as data loss or system instability, it's recommended to use the exact same model or a compatible replacement as specified by the server's documentation. If you're uncertain, you may want to reach out to HP support or your server vendor for guidance on suitable replacement options for your Gen9 server. They can provide you with accurate information based on your specific server model and requirements.

Re: Proliant DL360 Gen9 with GEN 10 harddisks

Hello,

Hard drives for Gen10 servers are designed to work on Storage controllers for Gen10 servers and not designed to work on previous generations.

In case you were to use them and it were to work, however, it is not a supported configuration from the view point of support.

@Sham82 We have now GEN 10 in GEN9 server  and  in the practical world it looks like it works.
