Proliant DL380 G4 memory upgrade (PC2-3200R -> PC2-5300)
I'm looking to upgrade the memory in my HP Proliant DL380 G4 server, as it currently only has 2GB total. I know it can only handle 2GB or smaller modules. It uses PC2-3200R 400MHz DDR2 ECC memory. I have a ton of PC2-5300 ECC memory from other HP servers. However, it will not boot with that memory. Is there a way I can enable the server to use PC2-5300 memory? I know most PCs will just lower the speed, the only requirement being to use the same DDR generation (DDR, DDR2, DDR3, etc). Thanks

Re: Proliant DL380 G4 memory upgrade (PC2-3200R -> PC2-5300)
Hi,
Check this document:
h20564.www2.hp.com/portal/site/hpsc/public/kb/docDisplay/?docId=emr_na-c00374943
The DL380 G4 only supports the PC2-3200 Registered DDR-2 SDRAM DIMMs, 1.8 volts, 72 bits wide, and ECC.
PC2-5300 cannot work even with reduced performance/speed.
Thank You!
I am a HP employee
