ProLiant DL380 G5 with Smart Array P400 disk failure
Hello,
i have a ProLiant DL380 G5 with Smart Array P400 disk failure on bay 3. All my four (4) disks are HP DG146BB976 (146GB 2.5-inch SFF SAS 3Gb/s 10K RPM) model but the faulty one was replaced with a HP EH0146FARWD model (146GB 2.5-inch SFF SAS 6Gb/s 15K RPM). The new drive was rebuilding for quite some time but eventually it became faulty again.
As i am new to this, we should purchase the exact same disk model in order to replace the faulty one? The issue is with the different model?
I'm attaching also the generated report in the below link.
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1qFmswlwp0NfeAhPcQfVH42fA3L-zUwFC/view?usp=sharing
Any help/advise would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
KB.

Re: ProLiant DL380 G5 with Smart Array P400 disk failure
Hi
You do not have to use exactly the same drive model although this would be aventagous. Any drive compatible with the P400 would work. It doens't even have to be the same size. You could use a bigger drive (but not smaller), you just won't be able to use the extra space.
Check the quickspecs for compatible drives and make sure you have the correct firmware on the controller and the drives.

Re: ProLiant DL380 G5 with Smart Array P400 disk failure
thank you for your answer.
Controller has firmware version 7.22 - the old drives have firmware HPDC and new drive that i've install has firmware HPD4.
Shall i have to update the firmware on the new drive?
Thanks.

Re: ProLiant DL380 G5 with Smart Array P400 disk failure
Hi,
the new disk failed due to different firmware? shall i have to buy a new one? do i need to install Service Pack? i've tried to install the online ROM flash component for the new disk but the installer states: 'There were no devices found that could be loaded with the ROM Image.'
I'm having RAID 1+0 -- for now i do not have any issue but im afraid if the second disk fails on the array..
Please advise.
Thanks,

Re: ProLiant DL380 G5 with Smart Array P400 disk failure
The dirve you have is listed on the Quick Specs but there are different codes for it. See if you can ID which one it is
Drive List
https://support.hpe.com/hpesc/public/docDisplay?docLocale=en_US&docId=a00052032en_us
Quick Specs
https://h20195.www2.hpe.com/v2/GetPDF.aspx/c04111741.pdf
There are fixes for both drives
https://support.hpe.com/hpsc/swd/public/detail?swItemId=MTX-74a47cba30dd48afb49990d1f3#tab-history
https://support.hpe.com/hpsc/swd/public/detail?swItemId=MTX-32d1225fcf604100a2efb201c2#tab-history
but none mention compatibilty issues or support for new drives. The Contoller is a version behind but again the update doesn't mention support for new drives.
Unfortunatly it looks like the dirve might be DOA.
