System Name HP ProLiant DL380 Gen9 SFF
Product ID 719064-B21
UPDATE-After further investigating there isn't a Smart Array P440 in the server which I don't need so it wasn't a big deal. I ordered a different HBA..
I still don't know these-What is the bnx2fc Generic HBA?
Is the Wellsburg 6-port SATA controller physical hardware or a driver/software?
Thanks
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hello all, This was the first server I bought and had seen inside, so I didn't really know everything that was supposed to be inside. On the invoice, it stated that the server had a Smart Array P440.
According the HPE PartSurfer and the paper pasted on the underside of the server cover, It is supposed to be after the RAM & CPUs but the PCI slots. There is just a slot there with no RAID controller. A blue cable that says PCI:SAS is just laying in there, not connected to anything except the front Hard drive back plane.
Correct me if I am wrong, but I don't think there is a Smart Array P440 in this server. Which I don't think I need anyway.
I was told I would need to buy a hardware HBA in order for TrueNAS SCALE to create the ZFS pools and RAIDS.
What does this about Embedded RAID 1 mean?
Location Embedded RAID 1
Slot Description Embedded
UEFI Device Path PciRoot (0x0)/Pci (0x1,0x0)/Pci (0x0,0x0)
UEFI Structured Name RAID.Emb.1.1
Populated Yes
Enabled No
Device Name Embedded RAID 1
Device Type Smart Array Storage Controller
PCI Address Bus: 3. Device: 0. Function: 0
PCI Vendor ID FFFF
PCI Device ID FFFF
PCI Sub Vendor ID FFFF
PCI Sub Device ID FFFF
PCI Class Code FF
PCI Sub Class Code FF
Firmware
Also, in one of the pictures I enclosed there is info about Host Bus Adaptor Info-1 being Wellsburg 6-port SATA (AHCI mode) and info about HBA bnx2fc Generic HBA
Is the Wellsburg 6-port SATA controller hardware or a driver?
What is the bnx2fc Generic HBA?
FOUND ANSWER-If I had a different cable that went from the back of the hard drive back plane and ended with 2 plugs- 1 for port1 and 1 for port 2 on mainboard, would that work?
Thanks

Re: Query: HP ProLiant DL380 Gen9-Confusion about HPE Smart Array P440ar/2G - Prolaint se
Thanks, but neither of those links were helpful. I think I should have phrased the subject better. I don't have confusion on how to use the HPE Smart Array P440. What I was really asking is-Am I correct, that my server doesn't have the Smart Array P440 in it? I have come to the conclusion that there isn't a P440 in my server. The space that it should be is empty.
Today booted up and explored Intelligent Provisioning and elsewhere. I'm pretty sure No disks are found because there isn't a Smart Array Controller in the server.
The ROM is P89 v 2.76 (10/21/2019) so I don't think the 295 memory message error was because of ROM. I think all memory error messages were because of dust, debris, or not seated quite right. Thanks again for trying.
