Proliant Hard Drives

I would like to know the problems with mixing drive rpm's in the raid5 array in my Proliant 1600 server. I have been using 10,000RPM but have been offered a deal on some 15,000RPM drives. Can they be mixed in the same array?

Re: Proliant Hard Drives

15k will downshift itself to slowest on the bus SCSI device

Ultra2, Ultra3 and Ultra320 drives can be mixed on the same SCSI bus.
Wide Ultra drives should not be used on the same SCSI bus as Ultra2, Ultra3 or Ultra320 devices.

Re: Proliant Hard Drives

The rotational speed of the disk is irrepective of the communication standard of the drive (Ultra320/160/3/2). And also the rotational speed effects only how fast the data can be read/wrote to the disk once the data reachs the drive and is irrespective of and not effected by the controller.
So yes you can mix rotational speed drives.
