Proliant ML150 G6 Bad CPU socket
At our school we have a spare server that I could not get to boot. I opened it up to see if I could find the problem. After a little investigation, I found a few pins in both cpu sockets bent. I straightened the pins in socket 2 the best I could, but in socket 1 there seems to be a pin missing. My question is, can the server run with only cpu 2 installed. Or is the server just a large brick?

Re: Proliant ML150 G6 Bad CPU socket
Hi, Yes you can run with only one CPU, install it in CPU slot 1.
If only one processor is installed in a 2CPU system, only half of the DIMM slots are available Do not install DIMMs if the corresponding processor is not installed
Following are some useful links that you can go through: http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/Document.jsp?objectID=c01956609 http://h18004.www1.hp.com/products/quickspecs/13249_na/13249_na.pdf

Re: Proliant ML150 G6 Bad CPU socket
Thank you for the response. Here's the thing, though. Socket 1 has the bent pins. Socket 2 is fine. I will rephrase my question. Can it operate by using only socket 2? I swapped processors. Just to see what would happen. Same thing. If I just install a processor in socket 2, it boots up and says "install processor1. Shutting down in 10..9..8........"
Thank you.

Re: Proliant ML150 G6 Bad CPU socket
Hi, Server will not work if there is no processor in Socket 1. Since you the socket pins itself is bent you will need to get a replacement system board.
