Proliant ML310 G5 Problems RAIDing

Used the F8 Array Configuration Utility to setup raid 1 on 2x drives, ran SmartStart - ACU does not recognise any arrays. Installed the OS anyway, boots fine but only 1 HD in use. Attempted to install driver via "Add New Hardware" method, mentioned by 'Blazhev', still no joy. Any clues???

Hi!

It depends on what kind of Hard Drives you have in the server. They might be SATA and the controller might not be an smart array controller. The HP Smart Start CD only works with smart array controllers. What kind of storage controller do you have? Embedded SATA?

If you have the OS installed in a single Drive, probably you don't have a RAID Configured. I'm just assuming! If that is the case and you have a Embedded SATA Controller try this:

3. Goto Control Panel-> Add New Hardware->Device is connected->New Hardware->Raid Controller->Have Disk->Browse to the folder where the Embedded SATA RAID Drivers were extracted. Select the .inf file->Install Adaptec Raid Driver.
4. Restart the Server goto BIOS enable the Embedded SATA RAID.
5. Press F8 and goto Sata Raid BIOS->Configure the Drives->Create Array->Raid 0/1 A warning message will appear "Warning: Configuring the drives will erase all Array information from the selected drives, if that drive is part of an array. Arrays using any of these drives as members will be affected! Do you want to continue?(Yes/No):". Press "Y" to continue.
6. If Raid 1 is selected it will ask you what is the Source Disk, select the Right Disk in which OS was installed previously. Warning message might appear again. Select "Y".
7. Rebuild will take sometime, once rebuild is complete restart the server.

Once rebooted Raid would be detected and windows would boot up, in windows it would detect new hardware and Adaptec Raid drivers will be installed. Now Server is built migrated to Raid Successfully.

Re: Proliant ML310 G5 Problems RAIDing

Hi Grant, was very excited to read your comment above as it was exactly what I needed to do. I have a ML310 G5. OS was installed on 1 disk, another was added later and client now want to hardware mirror them.
However the steps you outlined didn't work for me. I'm still getting a BSOD with a 7B stop code.

The boot process is getting further than before I installed the drivers as you outlined above but still fails.
Any ideas as to what I've stuffed up?

Thank You
Doug
