Proliant ML310e Gen8 v1 server - GPU in iLo

As above im wondering if theres anything that can be set.

Ive got an ML310e with a P2000 Quadro card being used as a home Plex server. As theres a dedicated GPU now installed ive lost the ability to view the desktop through ilo. Ive looked through the BIOS to see if theres anyway that video can be passed through but cant find anything.

Cheers to anyone that chips in.

Hi

The following isn't avaiable on all servers but in the BIOS look for the following Optional Video Primary, Embedded Video Secondary under Video options.

Video Options

These options control the video display.
Options include:
Optional Video Primary, Embedded Video Disabled (default)тАФSystem ROM disables the
embedded video controller when an optional video controller is installed in the system.
Optional Video Primary, Embedded Video SecondaryтАФThe embedded video controller remains
enabled for iLO remote video functionality. The optional video controller is enabled as the
primary video controller and is used to show text during POST.
Embedded Video Primary, Optional Video SecondaryтАФThe embedded video controller is
enabled as the primary controller and shows POST text as well as function for iLO remote
video functionality. The secondary controller is enabled for use under an operating system
I work for HPE

Hello, I hope you can take a minute to answer me, I recently acquired a Proilant ML310e gen8 like yours, almost as a gift, and I want to use it as a plex server, I have searched for everything because graphics cards like GRID k 1 and k2 do not transcode and because they are old They are no longer supported on this computer.

Can you tell me how you did to make the Quadro P2000 work, what operating system did you use above all? And if you're still using it to see if it's still good for plex. Thanks for your time.

Hi there. Id be happy to help as much as i can....

First and foremost i was using windows....over the years i used 10, 11 and then server2019. The main thing was i was using a lifetime plex account which, give you the ability to utilize the GPu offload....have you got a full licence?

I dont own it anymore but it is still in the family (my brother in law uses it) and its still running plex albeit without the GPU as thats in my new server (a poweredge r730)

Woooo so fast and what a joy that you really answered me, I've been trying to make everything work for more than 1 month because I don't know anything about servers, now I know 2% haha...

I use a translator because I only understand Spanish, in case I write badly.

I am using Windows Server 2012, the equipment already came with it and the higher licenses are expensive. When you ask me what full license I have, do you mean PLEX? If so, I don't have it because until I get it to work out of 10, I won't invest in it.

The plex in my house and the server work without a problem, the problem is to transcode to relatives outside the country, maximum 5 users.

Would you help me by telling me what I should do and what I need with what I have because I have read a lot and learned little, I just know that this server is old but something can be done.

Hi there.

Yes - you do need a full Plex licence for the gpu offloading. Having said that i did run the server with the fastest cpu i could get for it and it could happily decode 4k on the fly. What cpu are you using.?

So that won't be a problem, I can acquire the plex license without problems.

The CPU is the one that the equipment brings from the factory, it is
Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU E3-1220 V2 @ 310GHz

You then tell me to buy the Quadro P2000 with my eyes closed that it will work without a problem when I have the Plex license. In any case, then I can migrate to another operating system, always Windows, which are the ones to use.

Hi there.

You can see now with a standard licence...if you go to the plex settings and then the gpu offload tickbox i think on a standard licence this is greyed out - can you check?

Just to add heres the document....

https://support.plex.tv/articles/115002178853-using-hardware-accelerated-streaming/

Ive had my full licence for years - when i got the P2000 i just plugged it in and ticket the box. ive not had to do any specific setup to get it working - are you sure you need a P2000? (mine has never gone above 20% utilization !)

Yes, I am now with a standard license, I went to the plex configuration but the GPU download box was nowhere to be found. I imagine it is because I don't have it installed, once installed it will surely appear.

I just read the document you sent me. and if I think I will need the P2000 for the following:

*Because it worked for you and I can't afford to invent for budget reasons. In addition, I have read so much that I have seen that other graphics cards are not compatible with this equipment, or simply do not trancode.

*I think I will need it to be able to share the plex with the users that I comment on. I just did a test on the PS4, simultaneously on the TV, all connected to the same network and no problem. however using the Smartphone connection to my personal network works fine but the processor from time to time goes up to 100% and then goes down. and the movie cuts on my Smartphone.

I am very grateful that you were able to answer me. once i get the GPU and make it work or not i will let you know how it went but now i feel confident about buying said GPU.

Have a very good day. Thanks again!

No problem....sorry i didnt answer back sooner....was on my way home from work. Yes - im very sure if you get the card it will be fine along with the full licence for plex. If you do get one then get the p2000 as it has an unlocked gpu multiplier (best for multiple plex streams)

Let me know how you get on and if you need any more help.

Cheers

Hello Hello ComfySofa, every day I thought, I'm going to write to ComfySofa but how should I translate it and organize the ideas I never did. I tell you that I bought the P2000 quadro because I wanted to play it safe. however things have not turned out very well. Due to the fact that the playback outside the home does not reach 1080p, everything is seen at 720p and I have done everything and read tutorials and nothing I have been able to do to solve this problem.

Do you know what it could be? I'm using windows server 2012. I'm thinking of installing windows 10, because I remembered that you had that operating system installed, I hope so. I also bought the Plex Pass subscription but nothing.
