Re: [ ProLiant ML350 G5 ] Smart Array E200i battery failure?
Thanks for your reply!
After replacing the battery do i have to do something else? Like re-configure the raid array or something like that?

Re: [ ProLiant ML350 G5 ] Smart Array E200i battery failure?
But I don't think it says "replace battery" without reason. If I don't replace the battery... what will happen?
And how exactly do i replace the battery?
I'm a servernewb... sorry.

Re: [ ProLiant ML350 G5 ] Smart Array E200i battery failure?
I agree with the rest, verify your firmware is up to date first, sometimes the new firmware has better verification/management on charging the battery. remember to wait 72 hours to give the system enough time to trickle-charge the battery.
If you do have to replace the battery, it will be connected to the cache module with a few easy to release clips. Just power down the server (properly of course), remove the cache module from the system, and swap out the batteries. It can take up to 72 hours for the battery to get back to full charge.
If you like, HP offers a page where you can view most server models, and how to replace/remove many parts in them at http://h20464.www2.hp.com/index.html
Here's a direct link to the process to get the cache module out: http://h20464.www2.hp.com/results.htm?SID=1121586&MEID=8B57711E-5E25-479C-9F6A-BE5916307139
Hope this helps.

Re: [ ProLiant ML350 G5 ] Smart Array E200i battery failure?
413486-001 - 128MB battery-backed write cache (BBWC) module - 40-bit - Does not include the battery assembly - For Smart Array E200/64 controller
Those are the 2 batteries used with e200 controller. Also check for the spare part no on the battery in your server.
For the purchase and the pricing details of the HP Proliant parts, please call the Pre-Sales at 1-800-888-5858 Or you can call HP Parts Store at 1-800-227-8164 to order by phone.

Or do you actually have two battery packs connected to the controller?

Re: [ ProLiant ML350 G5 ] Smart Array E200i battery failure?
Hello,
I am having the same error, so I am going to order part #307132-001. The links to the "Self Help" show how to remove the cache memory SIMM/DIMM, but don't show how to replace the battery. Will this be a "common sense" replacement once I get the battery? I've searched HP's Web site for any documentation on replacing the BBWC Battery, but can only find replacing the entire memory module.
Many thanks,
Bruce

Re: [ ProLiant ML350 G5 ] Smart Array E200i battery failure?
I am just wondering - would it be easiest to just replace the whole battery-backed write cache? If so, do I need to rebuild the array after or will there be any configuration involved?
I know very little about server hardware management.
Thanks.

Re: [ ProLiant ML350 G5 ] Smart Array E200i battery failure?
Hello,
no - you have to replace only the battery module - it is clipped behind the cache module. It is easy to remove from the cache module. After clipping in the new battery you put the cache module back in place on the controller - close the server and power it up.
If you have too much money to spend you can also replace the complete BBWC module with battery :-) but as said befor - you should not ;-)
The battery will be charged and the controller will then reenable the write cache. That's all - no need to change config or array settings.
Regards
Robert
Thank You!

Thanks, Robert. This will be much easier, since I am having difficulty determining exactly which part # I would need for the cache. :)

Re: [ ProLiant ML350 G5 ] Smart Array E200i battery failure?
Okay, I have replaced the battery, rebooted the server and waiting a few days to see if that battery just needed to charge.
I am still getting the same message.
Do I need to reboot again to be able to see that the battery has been charged? Is there something else that I need to do to get it to recognize the new battery?

Re: [ ProLiant ML350 G5 ] Smart Array E200i battery failure?
I have replaced both the battery and battery backed cache card. I have installed the latest firmware.
I am still getting this error message.
Any ideas on what else to try?

Re: [ ProLiant ML350 G5 ] Smart Array E200i battery failure?
I have an older ML350 with an e200i and a 128 MB cache module with a failed battery. Yellow light flashing on the BBWC and the ADU reporting battery failure.
When the battery failed, I bought a new one but that failed to charge. SO I bought 2 new ones from a different vendor - both new, HP parts (274779-001). Neither of those batteries charged either.
So I bought a new BBWC (356272-001) with a bettery. It did not charge either! I also tried all of the batteries in the new BBWC.
So, what to do now? Anyone have any ideas? Thanks

Re: [ ProLiant ML350 G5 ] Smart Array E200i battery failure?
I have simular issue, replaced battery twice in last few months, first one was HP part , 2nd was HQRP compatable,
I am going to check voltage on the battery that is currently installed just to see...
The one I pulled a few months ago has 2.6 volts on it after sitting for months so I wonder what the newer one has
I will report back.

Re: [ ProLiant ML350 G5 ] Smart Array E200i battery failure?
I am having the same issue. Tried new battery and new cache board and mix of each, old with new, also new with old. All combinations equal no joy! I can configure RAID 0 with bad battery state. I believe I can reconfigure as RAID 5 (without caching, but there will be a perfomance hit) if I do fresh.
