ProLiant ML350p Gen8 server ambient temperature sensor problem

Hi,

I got the server and when I boot it up in the POST process there is the Intel ambient temperature sensor readout which shows -1°C constantly also when I look it up via ILO4 it shows this constantly.

How to check/repair this sensor?

Thank you!

there are many agent not installed on your server, please update it using the full ISO of HP Service Pack for ProLiant (SPP) Version 2014.02.0 :

when done send me again a new AHS

The ambient sensor requires no drivers or agents to function. There is a problem with the sensor, the system board, or the firmware

But ASAIR this sensor is not on the system board, but somewhere on the front panel.

Ask the official HP support for support.

Hope this helps!

Re: ProLiant ML350p Gen8 server ambient temperature sensor problem

you're right, except that the concern of the sensors apart I found that a lot of agents are not installed as the PMC is not touve type of OS installed.

so I asked an update with the latest SPP for the server to full up to date (Drivers & Firmware)

Re: ProLiant ML350p Gen8 server ambient temperature sensor problem

Hi,

I updated the firmwares which were detected as older versions, but didn't help.

I have looked around the case of the server and I suspect the sensor to be installed in the left (looking toward the server) rack handle.

I guess it could be faulty.

But never the less please see attached the new log / BTW: there is no OS installed yet on the server.

Re: ProLiant ML350p Gen8 server ambient temperature sensor problem

On ML servers, the ambient sensor is usually a Diode that is located on the front of the chassis and a cable with two wires (red and white) connects this diode to the system board.  Check the cable. Try disconnecting it and see if you get a diferent reading.

Re: ProLiant ML350p Gen8 server ambient temperature sensor problem

call hp support, let them replace the part in question. there is nothing you can repair yourself by updating or such ...

Hope this helps!

Sure that he can contact HP, but it's recommanded to send AHS log for any Gen8 server, and it must be uptodate.

we need to invesigate on AHS log in order to know which part must be replaced

Re: ProLiant ML350p Gen8 server ambient temperature sensor problem

well, it is recommended to send the log to support, not to the forum!

Hope this helps!

Re: ProLiant ML350p Gen8 server ambient temperature sensor problem

Opened a case with HP Support, waiting for new answer as the AHS log didn't show the system shutdown because of thermal info the case is on hold / server had IML/AHS logs cleared by HP repair shop.

The ambient temperature sensor is located in the front panel of the server (power buttons, usb ports).

Hopefully next week HP support will come up with a solution for this as I wouldn't like to deploy this server into production to have it fail in couple of hours.

Thanks to all for all suggestions and help!

Re: ProLiant ML350p Gen8 server ambient temperature sensor problem

Hello

First of all: yes our server room is cooled at around 21°c.

We bought a bunch of HP DL360 and 380 Gen8 servers and all of them have a temperature given by the sensor of the HD controller above 65 to 83° depending of the server.

The crazy thing is that these servers do not even use their hard drives.

I cannot understand how a disk controller can become so hot when doing ... nothing.

Board firmwares are up to date.

Re: ProLiant ML350p Gen8 server ambient temperature sensor problem

thats accutate for most raid cards, also any way we can request the locations of the sensors based off the HP temp sensor id listed off the diagnostic tests
