We will replace our old Novell 4.12 File and Printer server soon now.
Is there any differences in performance to expect
when comparing a dl380 and a ml370g3 Proliant which are equally equiped?
4GB, 1 xeon 3,06 Ghz
Novell 6.5
Thanks in advance.

Solution
Hi John,
Assuming you actually mean DL380g3, there is no question that the DL380g3 is a faster server for the 3+ GHz version.
Despite of the possible upgrade with a U320 controller in the ML range, I believe the drive cage is limited to Ultra3 only. You also get dual Gb NIC and a nice set of rack-mount kit with the DL380g3.
You can also upgrade it with extreme redundancy and enough cooling fan to have the machine taken off!!!

Re: Proliant server performance
hi john
the ml370 and dl380 of the same generation are equivalent in performance.
the ml offers more space - this means more devices and more slots.
the dl models have an integrated raid controller (5i) - which is really a good thing to have.
so if you want a server that goes into a rack - you can take either one. if you need a tower model - take the ml.
the ml370 and dl380 have the same performance features (same processors, same memory, same redundancy features.
the dl380 gives you 2 gbit nics, the ml370 gives you one.
both models have a iLO for management.
best regards
ernesto
