ProLiant XL420 Gen10 (Apollo 4200 Gen10) - Drive Failure Frequency
Good evening. We've got quite a few of the ProLiant XL420 Gen10 (Apollo 4200 Gen10) operating in our environment and I've been noticing what seems to be a high number of drive failures/predictive drive failures with this model of server outfitted with a full complement of the HPE 10TB SAS 12G Midline 7.2K Helium 512e drives.
We've used the latest SPP to update software/firmware, but still seem to be experiencing a higher than normal number of failures/predictive failures with this model of ProLiant. Has anyone had a similar experience and if so, was there a fix? Thank you.
Scott

Re: ProLiant XL420 Gen10 (Apollo 4200 Gen10) - Drive Failure Frequency
Hi Scott,
Could you please share the Model Number of the Drives which are having the issues.
We shall check if there are any Advisories / Known issues on Firmware of Drives - We understand that the latest SPP has been updated but it will help in checking.
Thank you
RamKS

Re: ProLiant XL420 Gen10 (Apollo 4200 Gen10) - Drive Failure Frequency
The drives in question have been almost exclusively the HPE 10TB SAS 12G Midline 7.2K Helium 512e Hard Drive. Primarily model number MB010000JWRTE with HPD2 firmware.

Re: ProLiant XL420 Gen10 (Apollo 4200 Gen10) - Drive Failure Frequency
Good afternoon,
Same issue for us.
It seems to be a temperature problem for us, since we had increased (20° -> 21°C). the system panics regularly, we returned to our 20°c, until the day when the technicians came to do the maintenance of the groups. With HP, we changed the BIOS release, the array's firmware, the motherboard's firmware. It was up for 1h20 instead of 20mn
System Administrators' Team.
