Re: Rack View Information
How does Altiris rediscover the blades.
Does Altiris talk to insight manager?
Is it necessary to upgrade SIM
I am migrating a Citrix PS4 Softicity environment to a non Softricity PS4 farm.
RDP/Altiris is used to package apps and build the Citrix Servers.

Re: Rack View Information
I was sure we were discussing a graphic representation of HP Blades presented by HP SIM.
Re RDP / Altiris - yes, it nicely integrates with SIM & could be maintained through it.
Re blade enclosure firmware update - the best way is to connect to the management module via HP SIM, although I believe there are 'SIM free' (probably scripts) methods available too.

Attached is a pic of the rack view.
I connect to the ILO through the rapid deployment interface.

Re: Rack View Information
Maybe then you could access your blade enclosures via RDP - you just need to cable them to your network (if not cabled yet) & upgrade their firmware from there.

Re: Rack View Information
The Servers are due to be moved to a new data center at the end of the month.
I can RDP on to the enclosures and will update the firmware.

Re: Rack View Information
The system in question had two power supply enclosures and two blade enclosures (one set was old, the other just recently added and without any blades installed yet). The system displayed that "topology possibly misconfigured" warning - and the components were detected in a wrong order, just like in your case. There are two LEDs at each management link connector: each management connector at that rack was blinking both LEDs.
First he disconnected the management link cable between the old and the new section and refreshed the rack view. With the new components disconnected, the rest of the components were shown in the correct order and the topology warning was gone.
Then the new components were powered off and on, and then the management cables were connected again, in a strict bottom-to-top order, one component at a time. After doing that and refreshing the view once again, the display was correct.

Re: Rack View Information
On all of your blades, there should be a utility... Start --> Programs --> HP System Tools --> HP Proliant BL Rack Upgrade Utility (on Windows Servers, otherwise the Firmware Update CD might work)
Enclosure Firmware...
The iLo gets the rack information from the management modules which are all interconnected. If the short 1foot cables are mixed up and/or not connected properly, you will have these issues.
How do the enclosures sit int the rack?
I assume:
B
B
P
P
Where B = Blade Enclosure and P = Power Enclosure.
On the back of the power Enclosures there are 2 RJ45 connectors, spaced about 6 to 8 inches apart in the middle towards the bottom of the unit. On the Blade Enclosures, the Management Links are clearly labeled and are right next to the ilo connection.
There should be NO connection in the bottom power Enclosure/left port. A connection from the bottom/Right to the top power enclosure/left port. From the top/right (power enclosure) to the bottom port on the first Blade Enclosure, then from the top port of the first Blade Enclosure to the bottom port on the second Blade Enclosure.
If I can find a picture, I will post it.
If your cables are pinched and/or have been damaged somehow, I suggest getting replacements.
Follow the bottom-to-top power up sequence presented by Matti.

Hi Steve,
Our Blades do not have the HP system tools.
Where can I get the system tools?

Re: Rack View Information
You could do this by booting one of your blades with latest Firmware cd via iLO/virtual media and then select firmware update and choose "p-enclosure..."
takes around 20-30 mins to update enclosure.
If you do not want to reboot server you could also do this when server is online.
Where can I get the system tools?
It should have been installed when you installed PSP.
Rgds,
Albert

Question for Albert Austin
Can you update Firmware for Enclosure from Firmware CD? Had you tried or you think?
Probably bin file present, but can you make it use from CD directly? I just need exact confirmation

Re: Rack View Information
Yes its possible. I have tried and done it for my customers. As mentioned in my above post it gives you the choice to update blade server and rack enclosure firmware.
