RAID 5 deleted
Hi there,
i made a stupid mistake On an ML350 G9 with P440 RAID controller: I deleted the configuration for a RAID 5 consisting of 3 hard drives + hot spare and then removed the hard drives. Then I realized that I forgot to save a file.
Is it possible to recover the RAID?
As far as I know, the RAID information is also stored on the hard drive.
Is it enough if I put them back in and create a new ARRAY from the old disks? Does it recognize this and rescewRW it so that I can boot from it again?
Thanks very much! Thomas

Re: RAID 5 deleted
Hi Thomas,
Good day!
Thank you for the Post. But here in the situation where the Configuration is already deleted, it would delete the configuration from Dricve itself and the Drives will not be having the configuration details, and hence it may be not possible to recover the RAID.
However you can try puttingt the Drives back to the Server (in the exact same Locations) and check if you get option to Re-enable the Logical Drive (Which is quite not possible - however you can try once).
Thank you

Re: RAID 5 deleted
Hello Thomas,
I once had a similar problem, but with a software RAID.
Before you try anything, you should copy your disks if you have the possibility.
That way you can go back to the current starting point in the worst case.
After that I would proceed like this:
- pull out all your disks. Write down which disk was where.
- Put new disks in (empty or trash). but should have the same capacity.
- rebuild your RAID like the one you deleted.
- Shutdown
- Now change the fake RAID against your "good" disks.
- Hopefully it will recognize this and mount your RAID again.
I keep my fingers crossed for you.
Curtis

Re: RAID 5 deleted
Hello all,
many thanks for the tipp┬┤s.
I pulled out all the 3 Hardrives + 1 Hotspare with the RAID 5. I do not longer know which was the right order the hdd┬┤s were placed in.
I will try like Curtis said.
Create a new Array with hdd with the same capacity.
Shut down server and change this hdd┬┤s with the old Disk┬┤s. Maybe I have luck and I put them in in the right direction back again. If fails, I will try the hetekamp RAID Tool. Maybe it can recover the file system.
25 years I do IT with hundreds of server upgrades. Always backup everything twice. But one little server, which contained THIS urgent file, I do not and forgot to copy the file.
Never ever lost any files, maybe until now...
I will try this last solutions and pray to god for good luck.
Thanks!
Thomas

Remember, the RIS (RAID information) data is on the disks.
I guess this won't work with these controllers.
Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Re: RAID 5 deleted
The most important point what type of data on drive?
1. Is OS running on separate Raid e.g. Raid 0 or 1?
If any type of application running on separate Raid, chances to recover the volume.
