Raid 5 Drive Failure - Recovery?

Hi

This is my first post here so be nice.

Unit is a Proliant 110 G5 with 2 drives configured as system mirror. The second drive has failed. How do I replace and rebuild the mirror array?

Do I simply power down, replace drive? Can the rebuild be done with HP storage manager application?

Directions anywhere at all please?

With the assumption you are using a Smart Array raid controller, just replace the drive.

The controller will detect it and rebuild the array (Usually).

Thanks for reply, can I just confirm...

It's actually RAID 1 I think, a simple mirror for redundancy.

The controller is the embedded SATA on a Proliant ML110 G5.

The 2 drives are on Port 0 and Port 1. The drive on port 1 has failed.

So you are saying I simply power down, replace the drive and power up again. Don't I have to add the drive anywhere or initiate the rebuild?

Hi.

The embedded controller from memory is not based on Smart Arraay technology and has different requirements.

You should have the option to configure the array during the BIOS load by pressing F8, I suspect that there is an option for rebuilding once you enter this area.

Sorry, I don't use that controller due to the lack of Smart Array features.
