Raid Rebuild is failing

Hello,

We have raid 50 on DL380p with p420, after one of the drives failed we swapped with a new drive and on the acu page it said "recovering" after some while it went into "failed" again.

After that i thought maybe the new drive is bad, i had another one, i've changed the drive again but it still giving me a failed message.

Here is the error message in log file(I'm trying to upload log file but somehow it doesnt allow me to)

"Rebuild Aborted From Write Error"

Re: Raid Rebuild is failing

What OS are you running in that DL380p Gen8?  Is the firmware for the P420 array controller up to date (latest was 8.32 (E)
2021-11-05)?  You said you swapped out the failed drive with a "new" drive, but this model of server went End of Sale 10/31/16 and likely went End of Support Life 5 years after that, so I'm not sure how "new" the replacement drives are.

Re: Raid Rebuild is failing

Thanks for your reply,

System is not booting as of now, i'm trying with a portable windows and opened up the acu there.

Before i try it was on version 8.00 rebuild failed, and i've upgraded the firmware to 8.32 and its still the same error.

You're right, older drives were non-hp drives, and the new drive also is non-hp drive. but same model.

I'm out of options, 1 drive is failed and i've tried with 2 new drives but still it fails with error "Rebuild Aborted From Write Error"

I've uploaded the log file here from ACU

Re: Raid Rebuild is failing

Hello,

I have checked the ADU report and i see 2 drives are bad in the array.

One drive is already failed and the other drive is in predictive failure state.

Smart Array P420 in slot 3 : Physical Drive (300 GB SAS) 1I:1:2  The physical drive has failed.
Smart Array P420 in slot 3 : Physical Drive (300 GB SAS) 2I:1:6  Physical Drive State: Predictive failure. This physical drive is predicted to fail soon.
Smart Array P420 in slot 3 : Logical Drive 1  Logical drive state: The current array controller has a bad or missing drive. This logical drive is operating in interim recovery mode with reduced performance and a further physical drive failure may result in data loss depending on the fault tolerance.

RAID 50 , offers a fault tolerance of one drive only.

You need to get both these drives replaced and then recreate the array.

HPE will not assist any issues caused by third-party components.

Thanks,

TAM

Re: Raid Rebuild is failing

Thanks for your reply,

I can't recreate the array, because we need some data in the disk. I'm changing one of the failed disks but rebuild is still failing with "Rebuild Aborted From Write Error" error. I've also upgraded the raid controller's firmware but still giving me the same error.  I dont understand the write error part, does it means raid controller is also messed up ?

Re: Raid Rebuild is failing

Hello,

Then we would need to replace the faulty drives if any and delete and recreate the array.

We will not be able to properly diagnose the errors on non-HPE drives.

Thanks,

TAM

Re: Raid Rebuild is failing

Is recreating the array removes all data on drives ?

Re: Raid Rebuild is failing

Yes, the data will be lost.

Please take a valid backup and then proceed to delete and recreate.
