RAM installed not works!
Good day!
We have bought a server HP ML150G5 470064-709
It hase in 2 module DDR2 so kind type:
1Gb 1RX4 PC2-5300-P-555-12-HO
But also it was bought a module
1Gb 2RX8 PC2-5300E-555-12-G0
And it is not working if standing alone and with two previously.
May be it is exist some secret how to install it?
It is 8 beep usually or nothing ( server boots, but reloads at some moment and not show 3 Gb - only 2 )

Re: RAM installed not works!
"When all else fails, how about reading the manual?" :-)
Please see pages 48-49 of your server's Maintenance and Service Guide:
http://bizsupport1.austin.hp.com/bc/docs/support/SupportManual/c01310807/c01310807.pdf
It's available through http://www.hp.com/go/support like all HP Proliant server documentation.
You have 2 modules of type "1Gb 1RX4...". I guess these are single-rank memory modules (1R). Your single extra module was "1Gb 2RX8...", which is probably a double-rank memory module (2R).
The Table 3-2 on the above-mentioned document seems to indicate that if you have both double- and single-rank memory, any double-rank memory _must_ be installed in the lowest-numbered slots.
The document also says: "For best performance, DIMMs should be installed in symmetrical (balanced-capacity) pairs." So mixing a dual-and single-rank DIMMs together in a single pair might not be a good idea.
It might have been better to buy a pair of 512 Mb DIMMs instead of a single 1 Gb DIMM, but what's done is done...
Try this configuration first:
- put the dual-rank DIMM (1GB 2RX8) into slot 1A
- leave slot 2A empty
- put the single-rank DIMMs into slots 3B and 4B
If that does not work, try this:
- put the dual-rank DIMM into slot 1A
- put the single-rank DIMMs into 2A and 3B.
Neither of these configurations is recommended, and they aren't probably officially supported either. Good luck.
MK

Re: RAM installed not works!
But wait a moment.
I have already put 2R module in 1A and leave him alone. And after that server has not works.
And also the question:
Can this 2R module work in usual DDR2 slot on usual PC? May be you can give me an answer.
Becouse I was not sure about dual memory...
Thanks for explaining.
Will try to download and read manual and also those purposal configuration. But still not sure.
