Removing 1 x Disk from Server

I have a scenario and need suggestion from the experts.

----1 Rack mount server with 3 x 300GB Disks (RAID 5). Up and running.

     ----1 x Blade Server with 2 x 300GB Disks (RAID 1). Up and running.

I want to make a backup of blade server on one disk, (using one rack mount server disk.)

Is it possible to remove one HDD from Rack mount server (RAID 5 setup) ,remove one HDD from blade server and install HDD (from RAID 5 setup) in blade server. As a result HDD from RAID 5 setup will get mirrored in balde server and i can use it as a backup of the blade server? Please suggest. Hopefully my question would be clear.

Re: Removing 1 x Disk from Server

My opinion about this:
Theoretically, that works, but if you pull out the mirrored R1 Drive during operation, the data on it may be inconsistent, which is like a USB Drive that you just pull out.
The Raid 5 then runs without parity, possibly also more slowly, and goes on error.
We have many customers who dispose of the SAS disk, in the meantime, you can get the 300GB SAS used for as little as 50 $, which is not worth the effort and the risk.

Hello,

You can try but i am ot sure it will work.
I would suggest you take the complete data backup before preforming this activity.
