Replace smartArray P410i from one server to another Server

Hello guys, I need your help. I've a two server HP Proliant 380G7 , I would like to move Array from one server to another, because one of them it has a problem, I was thinking to move smartarray card and disk to another server. I just would like to know, if that will keep the array without loosing data. Thank you? what is the proocedure to replace disks and array to another server?

Re: Replace smartArray P410i from one server to another Server

Hello @jsadmin

The array information will be stored on the disks themselves in the RAID Information Sector (RIS) and also on the NVRAM.
To move an array without losing the data you will have to power off both servers, pull all disks that belong to a RAID and insert them into the other server, then boot this server (Don't try to do it with either system running or the new system is likely to see the newly inserted drive as a blank one, available for adding to existing arrays.).

Before doing so you should make sure the Smart Array controller firmware versions of both are at the same level. If the machine being moved to has an older version of the firmware there is a good chance it might not recognise the array. If the machine the disks are being moved to has the same or a newer version of firmware the controller should recognise the array and boot the system
You can move arrays between different controllers. There are some stipulations, basically, you can move disks from an older controller to a newer controller, but not the other way around.

If you move disks and the old array is not recognized, try not to panic... move the drives back to the original system and boot into the ACU just to make sure everything is still there.
Do not, under any circumstance, try to recreate the array configuration with the same number of disks and same RAID level... you will lose your data. If it doesn't auto-detect the array from the drives themselves, then something's wrong... move the disks back before you lose any important bits and bytes.
