replacing drives on ML370 raid 1+0 array

I am replacing 4 harddrives in a RAID array (each has various error messages but all are still working...so far!)that has 2 stripe sets of (3)9.1 gb harddrives on raid 0 and these 2 sets are mirrored together in raid 1...plus one online spare...(7 drives total)

here is the question...what is the proper procedure to install the drives...do i have to "break" the mirror set and then change all 3 drives in "set1"...then remirror and 'sync' the data...or change the drives one by one...

also is there a way to set up raid 5+1...

I have the Compaq ProLiant Storage F1 SMART 2-P Array Controller and the ML370

Just swap the drives one by one. Wait till the recovery process has finished before proceding to the next drive.

What do you mean with raid 5+1? raid 5 with extra hot spare?

He means two RAID 5's mirrored. I am fairly sure the Smart Array Controllers do not natively support it. You may need to move up the food chain into some midrange SAN/NAS solutions to achive a greater level of redundancy and off of the ProLiant Storage.
