SCO 5.06 - Unable to add SCSI tape drive to DL380

I am trying to add a SCSI tape drive to my SCO system Proliant DL380. The system sees the tape drive after the Smart Array (when booting), but when I try to add it using mkdev tape, nothing works. I think I should see the 2nd controller when I do a hwconfig, but I do not. I have tried doing a mkdev scsi (using different choices, but nothing works). More information...The drive is a Sony 4mm DAT using SCSI id 6. I have also updated the EFS to 5.62a. Any help would be apprciated.

What is the exact model of the DL380? How is the tape drive attached to the server and what HBA are you trying to use?

If the drive is connected to the seprate controller.then you just check wheather sco has dectuted the adapter in kernal while booting if it is not then just install the adapter by using the driver came along with the box after thar reboot the server and try installing the tape drive .you should able to do now.

Both Bill and Kamal have pointed you to your problem, of which you've said yourself that you've got.

Assumptions here.

You've got your Sony DDS drive in an external enclosure, attached to an addition SCSI controller, in one of the PCI slots.

If you got it from HP, then it will be a form of Adaptec U160 controller, requring the installation of the 'ad160' driver.

OSR506 should be able to install this at installation (as it comes with the install media), you just need to ensure that you tell the OS the correct interface.

During your 'mkdev tape', what did you answer for the various questions?

As stated, you need to say it's connected to an 'ad160'. As a guess, it will be HA 0, Bus 0, ID6, and Lun 0.

After that, I suggest using the answer '4' for the type of tape (Compressing/uncompressing), although I don't beleive it makes much of a different which ever type you use.

Problem is resolved. The problem was that I was not using bus 2. I tried 0 and tried 1, but not 2. Someone pointed me in the right direction, it worked flawlessly.
