SCSI lesson please. Split-Backplane?

I have a DL380 that supports a split backplane. But I don't really understand what this does for me. If I understand correctly, the split backplane basically splits my smart array controller into two scsi channels. So my questions are, why would I do this, and what are the benefits of doing this. Thanks.

Re: SCSI lesson please. Split-Backplane?

You may want this for example if you want to put RAID 1 system drive and data drive on different SCSI channels for improved performance.

Or you may want this to put mirrored drives on different SCSI channels to that if a SCSI channel fails the system still has a drive that is accessible.
