Server Freezes
The last couple of months, I am experiencing problems with a Compaq Proliant 1600. It's a dual PII 300 processor machine, with 128 Mb RAM and a separate disk array containing 5 x 18.2 Gb hot-swap drives.
What happens is that from time to time, the server just freezes and requires a hard boot to get back online. I just to have this problem every week, on the same day. Error messages pointed towards the memory, so we replaced it just to check. Since then, we haven't had the problem for three weeks, but now all of the sudden the freezing starts again, but not on a regular basis. The last time i received this stop error:
**STOP 0x0000007F (0x0000000D, 0x00000000, 0x00000000, 0x00000000) UNEXPECTED_KERNEL_MODE_TRAP
This seems to point at a hardware problem, but how am I to know what hardware is malfunctioning?
I hope you guys from Compaq (or anybody else) can help me out...
Thanks in advance!

Re: Server Freezes
Consider IRQ conflicts. I had a similar problem with Proliant 400. It has one onboard NIC and I added the second one. When I looked at the IRQ settings in the BIOS, I saw that the same IRQ was assigned to 3 different devices. I couldn't change the settings because they all moved to the same IRQ for some reason. I removed the NIC and rebooted the system. Downed again and installed a different type of NIC and restarted. A day or two later removed it and reinstalled the old one, the problems vent away. Everything was quincidence though!

Re: Server Freezes
Have you tried running Compaq Server Diagnostics ?
Also if you have non-Compaq hardware installed(memory included) try removing them for troubleshooting purposes .
