Setting up Multiprocessor support after Win2K is installed
Configure the server hardware to the correct the "APIC Mode" settings. You must start System Configuration and press 'CTRL a' at the first menu after selecting F10 during boot. This activates "Advanced Mode". Then enter System Configuration itself and follow the prompts to complete a basic configuration load. Select to "Review" the settings and then pick "View/Edit Details" from the menu. Look down the list to find "APIC Mode". Press enter on this selection and select "Full Table, Mapped" (or "Full Table" if only choice, depends on specific system). Once this has been done, exit and save changes.
Then go into Computer Management, Device Manager, open up the "Computer" entry, right click on the entry under that (ACPI or something similar) and then select Properties. Go to the Driver tab and click Update Driver. Then pick "Next" and mark "Display list..." then "Next" again. Pick "Show all .." and pick the appropriate type from the list. For all current Compaq servers "MPS Multiprocessor" or "ACPI Multiprocessor" will work. For some much older models "Compaq SystemPro or Compatible" would work.

Re: Setting up Multiprocessor support after Win2K is installed
Maybe you should add that it is not supported to change from say ACPI - Uniprocessor to MPS - Multiprocessor.
Only change to the corresponding one!
There is an Q on this: Q237556.

Re: Setting up Multiprocessor support after Win2K is installed
Should have read this first! But instead I started with the driver first.....
Changed the driver to PIC Mufti-processor and re booted the server. Gets partially through initial Windows 2000 boot screen (boxes scroll up on the bottom of the screen) and then rebuts, does the same thing all over again.
I've now gone through and performed the system configuration you mentioned, changing the PIC mode to Full-table, mapped. Re booted and still get the same thing.
If I take out the second processor, it boots fine.
Note: The second processor has been running in this machine and recognized by Compaq upon startup for at least two weeks. Just hadn't gotten around to implementing the mufti-processor support in 2000 until now.
When I try to reverse the process and go back to a uniprocessor driver I'm given a warning that the change isn't compatible with my system.
Any suggestions?

Re: Setting up Multiprocessor support after Win2K is installed
I've had s similar problem. That is, I was able to build my server with two PIII 800/133 mHz processors through SmartStart, install Win2k Adv. Server, but when the Win2k splash screen is displayed, it processes half-way through, then reboots continuously.
Is there a resolution to this problem yet?
