Smart Array 3200 RAID Controller Problem
I have an Compaq Proliant 5500 that I rebooted and received the following error message.
1783-Slot7 Array Controller Failure [Command Failure (cmd=11h, err=020h)], from everything I have read I need to replace the controller card. How do I not loose my array information for my drives that I have in the server after putting in the new controller? Are there any steps I need to take to replace the controller?
thanks for any help

Re: Smart Array 3200 RAID Controller Problem
Hi Steven,
The information is stored on the drives so you just need to swap the SA3200 for another one and the logical drive configuration will be picked up. I am pretty sure a 1783 error is fatal but others may know better and suggest a workaround.
I don't think that running the erase utility with all the disks removed would help a 1783 error but you might want to try it. You must remove all disks before attenpting it however or you will end up with nothing. Just pull them an inch or so out of their bays, as long as they are not physically connected to the SCSI backplane.
Any replacement SA3200 firmware should be at 5.40 if possible. Here is a link to the download.

Although this kit has 4 diskette images, you only need to build diskette 1.
I hope this helps,
Brian
