Re: Smart Array 5i Error
Hello,
Since you are using the 5i controller, you basically have 2 options. If you are using a separate cache module, pull that out and see if the same error appears. (Cache is attached by cable from the 5i controller going to another pack/battery). If you are not using the add-on cache module, the built in cache module is damaged and needs to be replaced (systemboard). I suggest calling HP and they can help you determine your setup and which part may need to be replaced.
I would also make sure your BIOS/Array Controller firmware are up to date, they will probably ask you to do that.

Re: Smart Array 5i Error
Hi Caster- you have a possible bad cache module for the 5i controller. swap it out with a new one to see if it clears. the cache module can be removed only while server is powerd off it looks like laptop or printer memory. about 2.5 inches long and 1.5 inches tall. sits in a socket similar to ram. it is on the sytem board. server will function w/o this enabled, however disk I/O may take a hit and no data will be contained in cache is server accidentally loses power.
thanks.

Re: Smart Array 5i Error
Assuming that your system is not detecting the 5i at all, then:
Firstly, with power unplugged from server, open it up and remove and reseat the 5i mezzanine board. It sits on top of the system board and is about 5" x 4". Let it rest for a couple of minutes and make sure that there are no obstructions in the contacts. Put it back together and test.
If it still doesn't work then you probably need to replace that board.
I have had two similar faults like that this week. A reseat worked with one and a replace worked with the other.
