Bonjour,

Good morning,
I very recently purchased an HP proliant ml350p gen8, I bought it mainly because of the number of disks it can support because I would like to make it my multimedia server.
I would like to point out that I am new to server hardware so please excuse my ignorance on certain elements.
I wanted to configure the first storage bay, unfortunately when I am in the storage management I get a message saying that it cannot find a smart array controller, I admit that I do not know what to do.
Solved! Go to Solution.

SolutionHello,
This type of server should have a P420i controller on the system board. If you got it "preused" it is possible the previous person using this had disabled the controller in the BIOS. I would recommend going into the BIOS and selecting to reset to manufacuring defaults. That should wipe out any settings in the BIOS and allow you to start from scratch. This should also cause the controller to be available if it was manually disabled.

Re: SMART ARRAY NON TROUVE SUR HP PROLIANT ML350P GEN8
Merci pour votre réponse.
Dès l'acquisition j'avais déjà reinitialisé le BIOS
je vous met l'image du controller que je vois sur la carte mère :

Thank you for your reply.
Upon acquisition I had already reset the BIOS
I give you the image of the controller that I see on the motherboard:

Re: SMART ARRAY NON TROUVE SUR HP PROLIANT ML350P GEN8
Hello,
That would be the cache module and the battery/capacitor used for it. What tool are you using to configure an array? Are you booting to F10 to load Intelligent Provisioning (IP) or are you accessing it using F8 to load the ROM based utility. If you are booting to IP, then it may not recognize the controller since IP could be running a very old version. If the problem is due to the old version of IP then you can download it and update it by booting off the the ISO:
Do you get the option to press F8 during POST for the controller and if you do, does it give you the option to configure an array?

Re: SMART ARRAY NON TROUVE SUR HP PROLIANT ML350P GEN8
Google Translated:
When the server starts I use the F10 key to access the
Parameters for configuration, however I will try to update
the module in the hope that it works.
How do I update it?
Is this update linked to the version of ILO 4?

Re: SMART ARRAY NON TROUVE SUR HP PROLIANT ML350P GEN8
Hello,
Most of the configuration options for the P420i are available via the F8 ROM based utility. If that shows up during POST, then you can use that to configure an array. If you wish to use IP, then you will need to download the ISO, either create a bootable USB image or boot from iLO virtual media, then update the server IP using the newer version of the software.
I believe some of the newer versions of IP have a minimum recommended version for the iLO firmware. I would check the release notes for the IP download to confirm if there is anything documented regarding that.

Re: SMART ARRAY NON TROUVE SUR HP PROLIANT ML350P GEN8
Hello,
On the Legacy BIOS based servers (Gen8 and earlier servers) you should see an F8 prompt for most HPE components for their ROM based setup. You should see at least a few on this server while the server is POSTing. One of them should be for the iLO and another for the P420i. You may see more depending on the hardware configuration of the server. While the P420i is initializing the F8 prompt should be present and will allow you to select drives to add into a new array.

Re: SMART ARRAY NON TROUVE SUR HP PROLIANT ML350P GEN8
Après vérification dans le BIOS il semblerais que le controller était désactivé, une fois activé j'ai reussi à faire la configuration de la baie.
Merci beaucoup pour votre aide !
Google Translated:
After checking in the BIOS it seems that the controller was disabled, once activated I managed to configure the bay.
Thanks a lot for your help !
