Smart Storage Administrator: Create Array

Hi,

what can I do to adjust the storage administration of my HP Gen8 Microserver to an existing set of 4 HDD incl. Windows OS and Software-Raid without data losses?

Will the storage administration format the inserted disks in case of selecting RAID 0?

I just want the server to boot from the inserted HDD, but w/o creating a new array the server seems not to be able to boot from HDD. Am I right?

Thank you

Re: Smart Storage Administrator: Create Array

Hello Andreas42,

In my openion, the server will not boot without creating RAID/Logical volume. The disk will be formatted if you try to create a RAID volume with the inserted disk.

Hope I was able to answer your query!

Re: Smart Storage Administrator: Create Array

You can add hard drives to a system at any time if you do not exceed the maximum number of drives that the controller supports. You can then build a new array from the added drives. If the hard drives that you intend to add to the system are configured into logical drives, you must meet certain conditions before adding the hard drives to the system.

Please refer HP Dynamic Smart Array RAID Controller User Guide (page number 24) to check conditions before adding the hard drives to the system.
