Smart Update

Does anyone have a "minimal" copy of the Smart Update 9.3? We need to send a minimal package to several hundred PC's so that we can update our server SAS expander FW to 4.08 as well as a couple other FW updates. I noticed that there is a lot of "stuff" on that CD. We would like to have just the minimal files needed to forward to these PC's. We have already removed the numerous updates that we don't need, but still have a rather large file. Also - does anyone have a utility that will eliminate the empty space at the end of the package that the HP USB Key program creates? We have not been able to create a package smaller than a USB drive - currently 1G, but only using about 300M.

No PCs.

Hope this helps!

Re: Smart Update

Sorry for the confusion. This will be for our DL370 G6's. We will be using the DL370 iLO accessed on a PC on the same network to apply the FW. This seems to be the best setup in our network. The SmartUpdate files will be loaded on the PC and used remotely as virtual media for iLO. Since we have hundreds of these servers at remote locations, we need the media to be resident on the local network because of the time it takes to use virtual media from our corporate office/network.

Re: Smart Update

The USB key utility is on the firmware dvd itself.

Consider to create the usb key, delete all the firmware components and keep only the files for this server model (bios, array controller, ilo, network, hdds, etc ...) - the result is likely smaller than 30MB.

Hope this helps!

Re: Smart Update

We need more than just the few FW files. The SAS update requires booting from the flash drive - thus requiring a bunch of system files left on the drive. That is the rub - what can stay, what can go?

I wish it was as easy as leaving a few FW executables in a folder and pushing that to computers on our network, but... it needs to be a useable flash drive image. We can delete the unused update executables and a couple other unnessecary folders, but we still end up with 3-400MB or so.

Re: Smart Update

There's a blade fw update tool, but it hasn't been update for more than a year, an I expect it won't be in the future.

You can download, and customice it your self.
I haven't tried myself. So i don't know haow small you can get it to be.
