SmartArray P400 (and P400i) - Enabling No-Battery write cache - Works on P400i but not P400?
Heres what I have:-
Server1 - DL360 G5
P400i embedded - firmware v7.22
Battery status = Failed
Server2 -Dl380 G5
P400 in slot 1 - firmware v5.26
Battery status = Failed
On Server1, in ACU, if I go into Array Accelerator Settings, I have the option to enable "Enable write cache when battery not present or not completely charged". If I enable this, then running controller slot-0 show from CLI will confirm the cache is now OK.
On Server 2, in ACU, there is no option. Listed as disabled in CLI. Also, I can run controller slot-1 modify nbwc=enable with no errors. But if I check using controller slot-0 show its still disabled?
So question is, is no battery valid on the P400i but not the P400?
Or is it because the firmware is old on the P400?

Hi,
Try updating the firmware for P400 to the same version as in P400i.
It could be some firmware issue I guess.
Also see if this post's helps you:

Enabling or disabling the drive cache
On controllers and drives that support physical drive write cache, you can use this command to enable or disable the write cache for all drives on the controller.
CAUTION: Because physical drive write cache is not battery-backed, you could lose data if a power failure occurs during a write process. To minimize this possibility, use a backup power supply.
Syntax:
<target> modify drivewritecache=enable|disable|? [forced]
where <target> is a controller that supports drive write cache.
Example command:
=> ctrl slot=5 modify dwc=enable
Thank You!
