SmartStart ACU via Remote Host on BL25p problems

Hello,

I have an HP BL25p in my enclosure in our data center. I am trying to run SmartStart via the CD from my workstation's CD drive.

I have connected to the blade via iLO and the nice interface there, logged in as the Administrator (with priveliges on everything). The iLO has a static IP I assigned.

So I put the Smartstart CD into my workstation. I then went to the Blade System Configuration Wizard in the blade iLO interface. I began the wizard, and connected via Virtual Media to my workstation's SmartStart CD.

The Blade booted, the remote console appeared, and SmartStart began just fine. However, the default config for the HDs is one logical drive, RAID 1. I would like to segregate it into 2 logical drives if possible. Normally I go into SmartStart and fire up the Array Configuration Utility before I install the OS, and make it how I want there.

But from within the remote console on this blade, when I click on the ACU button in SmartStart, I get a dialog box error that says "The connection was refused when attempting to contact https://127.0.0.1:2381"

I click "Ok", and just get a blank screen. Can't get into the ACU at all. I've tried this several times, with IE 7 and Firefox browsers both. All other iLO functions (remote console in general, virtual media, etc) seem to work fine, but ACU kills me.

Any ideas?

Thanks!
Eric

Re: SmartStart ACU via Remote Host on BL25p problems

Hi Eric,

1. Try using different version of SmartStart CD and check.

2. If still the same issue, then during post press "F8" to boot to SmartArray BIOS and configure the array and the logical drive.

Raj.

Re: SmartStart ACU via Remote Host on BL25p problems

Rajashekar,

1) I will try a different SmartStart CD (although I am using 7.4). Perhaps 7.3 will be kind to me.

2) Using the F8 trick during boot unfortunatley only leads me to a very "basic" Array setup. You may recall this if you've used it. I can use it to set up a single logical drive, RAID 1. But I can't use it to set up 2 separate logical drives from what I've seen. The menus and options are just too limited there.

Thanks for the reply though, I'll try 7.3 SmartStart, and look here to see if others have ideas as well.

Re: SmartStart ACU via Remote Host on BL25p problems

Interestingly, SmartStart 7.3 allowed me to use the ACU without a problem. Outstanding suggestion!

I have proceeded to install Win2003 on the blade, so I think I'm ok. Odd that SmartStart 7.4 had that issue with the ACU and blades...oh well.

Thanks!

Different version of SmartStart (7.3) did the trick!
