SMP Support
I am running redhat 6.2 and installed 2.2.19-6.2.1smp kernel which is compiled for smp support. When I boot up and view messages file, I see the error "SMP motherboard not detected. Using dummy APIC emulation.".
Anyone have any suggestions
Cheers

Re: SMP Support
Topic: Compaq SMP problem with Red Hat 6.0
Canned Answer Number: 159
Release: 6.0 6.1 6.2
Issue:
I've installed the Red Hat 6.0 on a Compaq 1600r with dual CPUs. After installation, I manually installed the SMP kernel via RPM with the version that came on the CD-ROM. The problem is that the kernel does not detect the SMP motherboard as shown in the dmesg result:
Checking 386/387 coupling... OK, FPU using exception 16 error reporting.
Checking 'hlt' instruction... OK.
POSIX conformance testing by UNIFIX
mtrr: v1.26 (19981001) Richard Gooch (rgooch@atnf.csiro.au)
per-CPU timeslice cutoff: 100.21 usecs.
CPU0: Intel Pentium II (Deschutes) stepping 02
SMP motherboard not detected. Using dummy APIC emulation.
Resolution:
In the BIOS you should find an OS type setting. You can select NT or Unixware and a couple of others. Make sure it is set to Unixware.
