[SOLVED] Fan Speed Control DL580 g5
Hello everyone,
This is my first post in this forum, as I have recently bought a ProLiant DL580 g5. I am new to the world of enterprise servers, the reason I bought such an energy waste monster is because I needed a Render Node (Cinema 4D, Realflow, Houdini) at least as powerful as my high end workstation (a diy i7 4770k), and this beast was quite cheap...
Anyway, the problem is that the six delta fans are quite loud, even after reducing their speed after the startup, so is there any way to furtherly lower the speed of the fans (that seem to be pwm), or possibly directly control it within Windows (I'm using server 2008r2) or BIOS?
Note:
I've already installed all the drivers, HP System Insight Manager, HP System Management HomePage, HP Lights-Out Online Configuration Utility. If I open the System Management HomePage, under Overall Status it says "No items" and Management Processor "none" (even though if I start HP Insight Diagnostics as "Other Agent" it gives me a kind of list of all the components), if I open HP System Insight Manager I don't know how to authenticate, I've tried with Administrator, relative password (the one I use to login in Windows) and Workgroup as Domain, but it doesn't work, maybe because of javascript. Sorry for the messy spread of infos, but I'm trying all I can, sadly I have never dealt with this stuff and I really don't know where to put my hands on.
Thanks
EDIT: Contacted the HP support and I've been told that there's no way to control the speed of the fans via software, so I will go through other ways. I'll update when (if) I'll find a solution.

Re: Fan Speed Control DL580 g5
it's weird that there's no way to control, or at least read the speed of the fans, considering how many "system management softwares" (sic) are available from the hp support page...and sorry, but it's very sad to see that in the official hp forum none is able to answer to a such simple question...

This is a peer to peer forum, not an official HP support site.
Have you tried contacting the HPSC?

Re: Fan Speed Control DL580 g5
Sorry, I really hated to complain in such a stupid way, but I wanted to provocate some kind of reaction..maybe my approach to this kind of forum is wrong, but not even a folk showed up to say: "no, it's not possible" or "your approach is wrong" or "contact the support"...I haven't still tried because normally I trust more the opinions of passionate people who write in peer to peer forums rather than some first line support guy who will probably reply with a standardized answer, and since this is an HP Official Forum, and is attended mainly by hp users and employees I was thinking it should have been a piece of cake to find such an easy answer.
I understand that, being not an "enterprise" user, my approach has been wrong, and - I repeat - I'm sorry, I didn't mean to offend anyone.
Thanks for the answer, I'll give it a try and contact the support ;)

Re: Fan Speed Control DL580 g5
Our HPE ProLiant DL560 Gen10 Server had the same issue, the fans were at 100%. I have downloaded the HP Service Pack for Proliant, run HP SUM and this has fixed the issue.
