his is a brand new ProLiant DL380 Gen10.
I verified absolute file size and md5sum of SPP .iso image file. Then I created SPP bootable USB device in this manner:
dd bs=4M if=/home/AST0915-loc/Downloads/bp-Convenience-download-2022.09-01.01-63a0b561d6a734f05a0f9008.iso of=/dev/sdX conv=fdatasync status=progress
I mounted device to USB port on rear of server and during boot process I pressed F11 selected USB boot device from menu and booted. Boot application ran and queried me whether to perform qutomatic or interactive update. I chose interactive ("Interactive Firemware Update Version 2022.09.01.00"). Then I observe following:
Starting initrd...
Warning !!! Unable to mount the file system [cdrom]
Warning !!! Unable to mount the file system
Preboot maintenance mode
/bin/ash: can't access tty: job control turned off
#
I am stuck here. I've found no way to update firmware.

Re: SPP Firmware Update Fails
Hello there, have you tried creating the bootable USB using the HPE USB key utility? Or maybe with Rufus?
Also, you may try to use the iLO5 Virtual Media feature, that way you mount the SPP ISO and then just boot the server from the virtual media.
Here's the hpe usb key utility download link:

Re: SPP Firmware Update Fails
I have linux only and it appears that HPE USB key and Rufus are windows Apps.
As far as I can tell, newer versions of the SPP .iso are license key protected and although they will boot busybox, they will not run without HPE providing a license key.
My company paid for a permanent license key. I would like to know how to retrieve our permanent license key and I would like to know what open source utility that I could use to integrate our license key with the SPP, Service Pack for ProLiant.

Do you have permanent license key for HPE Service Pack for ProLiant? then you should be able to retrieve it from the HPE Support Center website. You can try with below steps:
* Log in to the HPE Support Center website using your HPE passport credentials.
* Click on "My Entitlements" and select "Software License Keys".
* Find the license key for Service Pack for ProLiant and click "View License Keys".
* You should see your license key displayed on the page.
Creating a bootable USB device with the license key integrated into the SPP .iso image, you can try the below steps:
* Download the latest version of the HPE USB Key Utility for Linux from the HPE website.
* Extract the downloaded package and run the "hpusbkey" executable file with root privileges.
* Follow the on-screen instructions to create a bootable USB device using the SPP .iso image file and your license key.
* Once the USB device is created, you can use it to boot your server and perform the firmware update with the license key integrated into the SPP.

Re: SPP Firmware Update Fails
I have a "HPE iLO Adv Elec Lic 3yr Support" license key. Hopefully that would work.
You addressed my issue perfectly. I will use this method for new HPE servers in the future and to install firmware updates when a new SPP is released.
