standby recovery server

we currently have 2 5500r?s connected to 2 compaq external U1
storage units which is one 436gb raid 5 volume. there is a 2dh controller in each server connecting to a dual card in each storage unit.
here is our question: we no longer want to use the standby server as a standby recovery server. Will we have any issues when we replace the dual cards in the storage units with the original 1 channel cards hooked up to just the primary server's 2dh? Will the 2dh controller still recognize the existing volume with data intact? What is the recommended procedure?
