I have a customer who wants to know why different stepping levels in a dl380 G3 is not a problem. And where HP has a statement about this.

Re: Stepping levels
HP is usually pretty good about stepping levels on the same server series. (i.e., you order the right part number)
I know from past experience that if you have two different stepping processors in a system (in my case an ML530) the box will black screen (crash/hang) on you.
I had them replaced and the problem, went away.
If you purchased the box with all the processors in it, I would call HP and give them what for?
If you purchased the box and then added a processor to the system after it was built, make sure the part number you ordered was the correct one for that server. Even if that processor for one "looks" like the one for another, likely that is where the mix happend.
