Storage system with hot removed events

Hi all,

We have some storage systems with DL360 Gen10 servers and D3600 shelves connected with SATA drives. We are experiencing issues with virtual drives due to drives that are appearing and dissapearing. Checking ADU report we have found hot removed events but no errors in the drives so we are not sure what is causing this behavior.

This is one of the ADU reports. We see lot of drvies with hot removed eventis in 1E:3 and 2E:3 boxes. That could be caused for the cabling or the shelves?? There are also in these boxes drives that haven't reported hot remove events.

Hello @ jtejada,

Thank you for your post.

What is Status of (LED indicator) in front and rear (I/O Module) of D3600?

Hello @ jtejada,

In this situation, we suggest opening a support case with HPE.
So we can analyze the logs. AHS and ADU report.

Re: Query: Storage system with hot removed events

Hi @Sham82 , we have detected that these shelves are only connected to first controller so system isn't having cabling redundancy. At this point we are going to suggest to add second cable to connect te secondary controller of each shelf but I am not sure if redundancy would work directly or drives would be appear duplicated and how that would affect to existing virtual drives set.

@jtejada

Adding a second cable to connect the secondary controller of each D3600 shelf will enable dual-path redundancy, improving resilience. Proper configuration ensures that drives won't appear duplicated, and existing virtual drives won't be affected.

To Implement Redundancy please follow the below instructions:

- Make sure Smart Array controller, D3600 shelf, and drives have the latest firmware, and the server has updated drivers.

- Link the secondary controller ports of each shelf to the Smart Array controller or another compatible controller.

- Verify in SSA[Use HPE Smart Storage Administrator (SSA) to confirm both paths are recognized for each drive.]

- Test Redundancy[Simulate cable failure to verify drives remain accessible through the alternate path.]

- If using a multipath-aware OS (e.g., Windows Server, VMware), ensure MPIO is enabled.

If correctly configured, drives won't duplicate, and redundancy will activate seamlessly. For any issues, review SSA logs or consult HPE Support.

Re: Query: Storage system with hot removed events

Hi could you confirm what is the command from SSACLI to verify dual path? We have changed cabling but I still see in ADU the three first shelves connected to first port and the others to second port so I think it should have changed after recabling.
