System Board Replacement and Chaning of Serial Number Procedure

Hi Can any one tell me the while replacing a System board in a ProLiant server, do we need to change the serial number in BIOS.

If yes why it is required?

Hi! You should change serial number if you want any management software (HP SIM for example) to correctly recognize the server in your infrastructure.

One reason is for warrenty purposes.. You can't report an error to HP on a Spare-part serialnumber it has no warrenty... And if you send a log to HP it will say a diffrent serial number then that your warrenty applies to..
