System partition

What is the usage of system partition?
Where does the system configuration information stored? On the main logical board, or on the system partition?

The system partition allows you to run several utilities from the disk instead of diskette. This includes Server Diagnostics, Array Diagnostics, SCU (System Configuration Utility) and ACU (Array Configuration Utility). System information is stored on the logic board, but can only be modified through the SCU (System Configuration Utility) which resides on the system partition.
