System Power Fault Detected (XR: 20 00 MID: FF 0F F0 00 00 FF 1F 0B 0B 04 04 0B 0B 0B 0B 0

I have 5  DL580 G8  that randomly shutdown with error:

System Power Fault Detected (XR: 20 00 MID: FF 0F F0 00 00 FF 1F 0B 0B 04 04 0B 0B 0B 0B 04 04 FF FF 04 04 04 04 04 04 04 04 04 04 04 04 04)

And the refuse to boot anymore

Sometimes re-seating the PSU will make them boot, after a couple of try..... it happenned i had to basically disassemble and re-mount the whole machine until it finally boot.

Tried to replace PSU, didn't solve.

Nand reset done

Upgraded with SPP 2019.09  not sure if there is a more recent one as HP make it so hard to get them now.

Any one can decode the obscur error code to get an idea what part is failling?

I guess with 5 of them all doing that, i cannot be the only one it happenned

Hello,

I see that you have performed quite a few troubleshooting steps. If I may, I reqeust you to upgrade the server's BIOS. You may download the update from the HPE ProLiant DL580 Gen8 Server's  Driver and Software section in HPE Support Center.

Regards,

After doing a huge amount of digging into this, the "XR: 20 00" appears to refer to the SAS backplane having power issues. To check this, unplug the power to the backplane AT THE BACKPLANE (not at the motherboard), fully power cycle the server so the ILO resets, and then the machine SHOULD turn on. Obviously the backplane will not work, as it has no power, but now you know it's not a motherboard/power supply issue!

This error seems to be the same for the entire G8 range, even microservers. It would have been nice for HP to actually SAY this 8-(
