Tape drive not recognized
I recently installed Solaris 8 on a DL380. The installation went well and a tape drive was later installed on the same system. The tape drive was a Compaq 20/40 DAT internal. The system has yet to recognize the new drive. How can I get it functional with Solaris 8?
More specifics about the system:
SCSI Devices:
SCSI Port 1 ID 04 - Compaq 20/40 Gbyte Tape Drive
SCSI Port 2 ID 00 - 18 Gig Hard Drive (RAID 1)
SCSI Port 2 ID 01 - 18 Gig Hard Drive (RAID 1)
SCSI Port 2 ID 02 - 18 Gig Hard Drive (Spare)
Drives 01 and 00 are mirrored using RAID level 1 as noted and are installed in hot swap bays.
The system has 1.1 GB of RAM and a single CPU.

Re: Tape drive not recognized
What SCSI controller is the tape drive connected to? Is the tape drive internal or external? Make sure the SCSI bus termination on the tape drive is set correctly for the type of SCSI cable that is being used. The drive ships from Compaq with a SCSI ID of 6. Run the system configuraiton program and verify the tape drive shows up with the correct SCSI ID. If the tape drive does not show up in the system BIOS, you have a SCSI cable or termination problem. Verify that the correct SCSI controller driver is installed into the OS. Also make sure that the same tape drive hardware resource settings in the OS match the settings that showed up in the BIOS configuration.
