Tape Drive not regonized by Solaris
I have two Compaq Proliant servers running Solaris 8. A ML370 without RAID and the ML380 with RAID controller. The tape drives (same type and model) are connected in both systems to the same SCSI chain. When running the Compaq Diagnostics on both systems, the RAID system fails to report the existence of the tape drive. While the non-RAID systems does show the tape drive. Since the diagnostics cannot see the tape drive, SOLARIS is also unable to.
The system without RAID(ML370) allows the two SCSI chains to have different IRQ's (IRQ5, IRQ10). The tape drive is on IRQ5 and the system hard drives are on IRQ10. Solaris has no problem finding the tape drive.
The RAID system (DL380 ) appears to control both SCSI chains together with a common IRQ10. When running the Compaq System Configuration Utility on both systems, it reports that a tape drive is connected and present. Also when the RAID system boots up it displays the presents of the tape drive together with the hard drives.
Using the System Configuration Utility on the DL380 I'm unable to separate the tape drive onto a unique IRQ as with the ML370.

Re: Tape Drive not regonized by Solaris
I too am experiencing this exact problem.
Has anyone had any success with this yet ? ... or can anyone confirm that the configuration of a tape drive connected to the SCSI chain controlled by the Smart Array Controller is supported under Solaris 8 ?
