TPM 2.0 on Proliant ML110 Gen9 not working
I inherited a new old stock ML110 GEN9 tower server to be used in a lab enviornment.
It did have maintenance on it but the project it was slated for never happened thus the only support I can get as far as drivers, bios, etc are general release and certainly not the latest available if it were under a contract.
With that being said I am running the latest general release bios P99 v2.72 (03/25/2019). The server came with TPM 1.2 with the option to add a TPM 2.0 module to the system board. Per the specs of the Gen9 (https://support.hpe.com/hpesc/public/docDisplay?docId=c04617738&docLocale=en_US&page=GUID-A9DC3352-4457-4B5D-BB10-C2AA8888DC9A.html) is definately supports TPM 1.2 & 2.0.
I researched the TPM 2.0 module which the original p/n in 2016 was 745823-B21 and a seach today shows this being a HP TPM 2.0 module p/n 450168-001. I purchased and installed the module and went into the bios and it does not show or offer TPM 2.0. It shows it is still at TPM 1.2 and that area is "greyed out".
From what I researched as soon as you add the TPM 2.0 module to the system board the bios should recognize and enable it. It is also supposed to be switchable with regards to 1.2 and 2.0 as well as whether it is visible or not.
I don't how much support I am going to get from HP if I open up a ticket so I'd rather reach out to the user/engineering community for some thoughts.

Re: TPM 2.0 on Proliant ML110 Gen9 not working
Hello, according to the HPE ProLiant ML110 Gen9 Server User Guide:
HP Trusted Platform Module optionThis server supports both TPM 1.2 and TPM 2.0. However, once the TPM version 1.2 is installed on the system board, it can no longer be upgraded to TPM version 2.0.
https://support.hpe.com/hpesc/public/docDisplay?docId=c04605708
I think its better to open a support case with HPE to double check it.
Best regards.

Re: TPM 2.0 on Proliant ML110 Gen9 not working
Thanks, I read that but it didn't seem to make sense. Why would HP sell an add-on TPM 2.0 module, and have a TMP module slot on the motherboard if it didn't support it.
So based on your reading it sounds like if the server came with TPM 1.2, that is all it will ever have.
I tried opening a ticket but they want a credit card as it's out of warranty.
I appreciate teh quick response and good advice.

Make sense, because you can buy the Server with no TPM Installed.

Re: TPM 2.0 on Proliant ML110 Gen9 not working
I guess if it's out of warranty can't I just remove the TPM 1.2 module and install the 2.0 module?

Re: TPM 2.0 on Proliant ML110 Gen9 not working
See: HP Trusted Platform Module option (hpe.com)
However, once the TPM version 1.2 is installed on the system board, it can no longer be upgraded to TPM version 2.0.
Once installed, the TPM becomes a permanent part of the system board.
