Trouble installing NC3132 NICs
I am attempting to install two Compaq NC3123 Fast Ethernet NIC's in a Compaq Proliant 3000 server so that I may use the Compaq NIC Teaming functionality for Fault Tolerance. When I attempt to install the cards, one of them is detected by the SCU and Windows 2000 correctly as a NC3123 card, but the second card is detected by the SCU as a 'PCI Ethernet controller' and by Windows 2000 as a 'Intel Pro/100 Alert on LAN Managment Adapter'. As such CPQTEAM will only recognize the first card and I can't build a team. I thought perhaps there was a fault with the 2nd card, so I installed a third NC3123 card, but it too is not recognized as a Compaq card. I double checked and all three cards are identical models. What am I doing wrong?

Re: Trouble installing NC3132 NICs
Hi Sean;
You're not doing anything wrong.
Win2K recognizes the NIC as an Intel because there's an Intel chipset on it. But, as you have seen, the Intel driver doesn't work properly for the NC NICs.
Delete the Intel NIC from the device list and run the CSP from the SmartStart CD to install the correct drivers. They should then be recognized correctly and you can run CPQTEAM.
Hope that helps,
Janine

Re: Trouble installing NC3132 NICs
Thanks Janine, but I found out what I was doing wrong. As it turns out, although the cards looked physically identical, they did indeed have different Compaq part numbers stamped on them. So the system was actually picking up exactly what they really are. I found another card, an NC3120, and it is able to team with the original NC3123, so I'm using the NC3120/NC3123 team now.
The only thing that is really curious about this is that I originally had the other two cards working with the compaq nic teaming app. It wasn't until after I tried to move them to a new switch and reconfigure the team that it all stopped working.
Oh well, it's working now, and that's all I really care about.
