Unable to ping ILO Proliant DL380 ....
Hello,
I've installed and configured the ILO of my DL380 HP server yesterday, but I cannot ping it from my office,
nonetheless I can ping another DL380 installed by a colleague of mine 6 months ago and connected to the same hub and the ILO network configuration is the same ..(gateway, mask,...)
any idea why I cannot ping at all in the ILO IP address ?
how to trouble shoot ?
thank you,
best regards
volfo

Re: Unable to ping ILO Proliant DL380 ....
First I would boot the server and press F8 during ILO initialization to check the configuration again.
You may do this even from the online configuration utility.
Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Re: Unable to ping ILO Proliant DL380 ....
Hi,
Please ensure that a working cable is connected to the iLO port. If activity LED is not blinking amber and is compeletely off, then it is possible that iLO may be disabled, enable it in RBSU.

Re: Unable to ping ILO Proliant DL380 ....
hello,
Thanks for your answer,
do you know if the ILO license is mandatory to be able to ping the ILO ?
I've not entered it yet.
Thx,

Re: Unable to ping ILO Proliant DL380 ....
Hi,
iLO license is not mandatory to be able to assign an IP address and ping it.

Are you sure there is a cable plugged into the iLO?
Is it a static or DHCP address?
During POST is the adress shown on the screen?
is your client on the same physical network?
Might there be a firewall between your client and the iLO?

Re: Unable to ping ILO Proliant DL380 ....
Hello Jimmy,
here are my answers :
Are you sure there is a cable plugged into the iLO?
yes ! there are 2 RJ45 cable connected on the rear panel of my server
Is it a static or DHCP address? static
During POST is the adress shown on the screen? yes : on the left botom of the screen
is your client on the same physical network? :
yes : we have 2 proliant servers connected on the same hub : from the first one I can do a ssh on the other one (the one I cannot ping from my office) so the connection is ok because I can go on the server through the other server
Might there be a firewall between your client and the iLO?
no and I can ping the first server installed 6 months earlier
by a colleague, and the network config is the same ...
thanks

I don't see listed what generation DL380 you have, but pretty much all of them have at least 3 network ports. Two are for regular Etherenet traffic, and one is dedicated to iLO. Are you sure the cable is in the iLO port?

Re: Unable to ping ILO Proliant DL380 ....
Usually the dedicated ILO port is labeled with "ILO". I would try a different known working cable and switch port.
And even a wrong gateway or netmask may be a problem.
Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Glad you solved it, sometimes it boils down to the first things we overlook when troubleshooting.
