Update Hyper- V Server 2012 R2 OS drivers on DL380p Gen8

I recently installed and configured a new Hyper-V Server 2012 R2 onto a DL380p Gen8 using Intelligent Provisioning (IP) v1.60. The server works fine but I'm trying to find out how I go about installing any future driver udpates for the OS, seeing as it doesn't include a GUI?

From the little I can find when searching, it seems that you have to use the IP option but I can't find anything that confirms this.

Anyone tried this yet?

Cheers for now

HPSUM run from another management system can remotely push updates.

There are also command line options to install HP updates (the cp*.exe files).  I forget what they are, but adding a /? to them should help.  I think it might just be /s or /silent for most packages.

I haven't actually tried running a Hyper-V only server since we do datacenter licensing for our virtual machines, but in core mode at least, I thought there was still enough stuff there to be able to show dialog windows if you're launching something from the command line.

Thanks for the suggestions, I'd already thought about using HPSUM from another server but was hoping that there would be an easier option i.e using the Intelligent Provisioning feature directly on the server in question.

I'll have to restart the server at the weekend and see if there's an option within IP to update the existing drivers.

Cheers for now

You can boot from the SPP ISO to do firmware updates, but driver updates would need to be installed from the OS itself.

Installing them using the /silent mode is probably your best bet for most packages. There are some management packages that walk through some config options, like the VCA and SMH installs... in silent mode it's probably still automated and it'll default all that stuff. Some of those you can pre-configure in SPP to set default options ahead of time if that's of interest to you.

Somewhere on HP's support site I'm sure there's a guide for automating or scripting driver updates in case it's trickier than just "/silent".

Hi - I just wondered if you resolved how to apply HP driver updates when running Hyper-V Server? I have the free Hyper-V server running on a new Proliant DL380 G9 and am wondering how to do this?

Many thanks,

Graham
