Updating DL580 G1 to SATA?
Has anyone attempted replacing the SCA80 drive cage in a DL580 G1 with a SATA cage?
I picked up one of these servers with four 700Mhz CPUs and no drives or trays. Looking up prices on trays and SCA80 drives is likely to induce heart failure... (Whatever happened to the box loads of these drive being dumped cheap on eBay?)
I put a 4 drive*, SATA II RAID5 500 gig array (hardware controller, not software) in one of my desktops for almost exactly $200. To buy the equivalent in SCA80 drives and DL580 trays... ouch!
*Refurbished Seagate OEM plain white label drives.
