Upgrade memory (HP ProLiant DL 380 G4)
Hello,
We have an HP ProLiant DL 380 G4 with RAM DIMM PC2-3200 (DDR2-333) of 2x512 MB (1 GB).
We want to upgrade our server RAM to 4 GB. Is it possible?!
In manuals it is written that the server supports dual side type memory, but for this purpose it is necessary to update BIOS. We have updated BIOS to the version "Systems ROMPaq Firmware Upgrade for HP ProLiant DL380 G4 (P51) Servers (2007.07.19 (A)
On January, 24th 2008) ". And all the same the server cannot define new memory.
We tried to establish in pairs and on the single some variants of memory:
1)
Hynix 2 GB 1Rx4 PC3200R-333-12 HYMP 125 P72 CP4-E3 AB D837
Hynix 2 GB 1Rx4 PC3200R-333-12 HYMP 125 P72 CP4-E3 AB D837
2)
Hynix 2 GB 1Rx4 PC3200R-333-12 HYMP 125 R72 P4-E3 AA-A 0549
Hynix 2 GB 1Rx4 PC3200R-333-12 HYMP 125 P72 CP4-E3 AB D837
3)
Hynix 2 GB 1Rx4 PC3200R-333-12 HYMP 125 R72 MP4-E3 AA-A 0549
Hynix 2 GB 1Rx4 PC3200R-333-12 HYMP 125 P72 CP4-E3 AB D837
4)
Hynix 2 GB 1Rx4 PC3200R-333-12 HYMP 125 R72 MP4-E3 AA-A 0549
Hynix 2 GB 1Rx4 PC3200R-333-12 HYMP 125 R72 P4-E3 AA-A 0549
Working configuration:
Hynix 512 MB 1Rx8 PC3200R-333-12 HYMP 564 R72 P8-E3 AA-A D812
Hynix 512 MB 1Rx8 PC3200R-333-12 HYMP 564 R72 P8-E3 AA-A D812
I have not found newer version of BIOS.
Prompt please where an error.
If a problem in compatibility of memory, it would be desirable to learn the list of types of memory with which "DL 380 G4" can work. Including 1 GB, 2 GB sigle side type and dual side type modules.
Thanks for your help.

Re: Upgrade memory (HP ProLiant DL 380 G4)
This support of RAM limits is very affected by the OS version you have installed on your server. Most win2003 servers will support no more than 3 GB RAM, with the exception of any 64 bit versions of Win2003. There are some switch exceptions, but not for many circumstances. The same RAM rule is still true for win2008 32 bit vs. 64 bit, 3 Gb vs 2 Tb RAM max. I do not know Linux limits.

Re: Upgrade memory (HP ProLiant DL 380 G4)
I know about limitations in operating systems of the set of Windows. But a problem not in it. The problem arises at a stage of the analysis of a configuration of the equipment. At inclusion of a server the system publishes characteristic beep that an error in operation with memory. As consequence further loading is impossible.
The problem is not solved yet.
